Project Logistics

🚧 Work in progress. This site is online so you can get a feel for the course, but I'm still finalizing the details — the schedule, papers, and policies may still change. Check back for updates!

The semester-long project is the largest component of the grade (70%). It is your chance to go deep on one corner of the course material.

Note: the structure, team sizes, and deadlines below are working defaults adapted from a comparable NYU seminar and will be finalized before the first class. Dates marked TBD will be set against the Fall 2026 calendar.

  2. Logistics
  3. Milestones
  4. Submission & late policy

Options

You may choose one of two tracks:

  • Application / demo — build something that uses one of the methods from the course on a real (or realistic) dataset or task, and report what you learned.
  • Research — pursue a focused research question: a new method, an analysis, or an empirical study. Negative results, clearly explained, are welcome.

Logistics

  • Teams of 1–4 students.
  • The project runs the full semester, with a small number of milestones (below) and a final presentation on the last day of class.
  • Deliverables: a short written report and a final in-class presentation.

Milestones

Milestone Due Notes
Team & topic proposal TBD One paragraph: who, what, why.
Milestone check-in TBD Brief progress update.
Final report TBD Short paper-style writeup.
Final presentation Mon Dec 14 In class (possibly remote).

Submission & late policy

TBD — submission mechanism and a grace-day / late policy will be announced with the project description at the start of the semester.
